Backstory

My journey started in jiujitsu when I was six or seven years old. I started wrestling my sophomore year of high school to improve my jiu-jitsu, but I ended up falling in love with wrestling and finding success in a sport I never expected to become such a big part of my life. That love pushed me to pursue wrestling at the collegiate level, where I continue to grow as an athlete while also coaching at San Clemente High School. There have been moments when wrestling has tested me, broken my heart, and made me question if I wanted to keep going. But no matter how hard it gets, I’ve never been able to walk away. Wrestling has become so much more than competing for me. It’s a part of who I am, and now I get to share that passion with the next generation of wrestlers while continuing to chase my own goals.

Why BERLYN DAVIS Loves Wrestling

I love wrestling because it’s so much more than a sport to me. It challenges me physically, mentally, and emotionally and forces me to become a stronger version of myself. It’s taught me discipline, resilience, and how to keep showing up even when life gets hard. It’s given me some of the most meaningful relationships in my life, from my teammates to the coaches who believe in me. Wrestling has broken my heart at times, but it’s also given me so much purpose, growth, and joy. I think I love wrestling because of who I become through it, and even when I’ve questioned my love for the sport, I always find my way back to the mat.
